India's licensing exam for foreign medical graduates has evolved from an informal screening test in the early 2000s, to the formalized FMGE conducted by NBE, to the current NExT introduced by NMC to unify domestic and foreign graduate licensing into one common exam.
The rationale behind NExT was to create a level playing field — domestic MBBS graduates and foreign medical graduates take the same exam, ensuring the same quality standard for all practicing doctors in India.
Philippines MBBS students are well-positioned for NExT — English medium teaching, NMC-aligned curriculum, and strong clinical training at DMSF directly prepare students for both NExT Step 1 (theory) and Step 2 (clinical skills). The transition from FMGE to NExT has not negatively affected Philippines pass rates.
