NMC (National Medical Commission) regulates which foreign MBBS degrees are valid for NExT exam eligibility in India. Key 2026 rules: NEET mandatory, IMED-listed college required, 54-month MD + 12-month internship, English medium strongly preferred, 12th PCB 50% minimum.
No NEET qualification = no MBBS abroad + no NExT eligibility. This is absolute. No exceptions under NMC 2026 rules.
The foreign medical college must be in the IMED directory (imed.faimer.org). Unlisted colleges = degree not recognized.
The MD/MBBS program must be at least 54 months (4.5 years). Shorter programs are not eligible for NExT.
A 12-month clinical internship must be completed. NMC mandates this before NExT eligibility.
Minimum 50% in Physics, Chemistry, Biology in Class 12. 40% for SC/ST/OBC categories.
All foreign medical graduates must clear NExT (Step 1 + Step 2) to obtain Indian medical registration.
